Row counter versus stitch counter
A row counter answers “which row am I on?” A stitch counter answers “how many stitches have I made or should I have?” A pattern may need both, especially when each row contains increases, decreases, or repeated groups.
Physical and digital versions
Physical clickers are simple and tactile. Digital counters can keep the value with notes, a pattern, and a named project. The choice depends on how often you switch projects and whether you need a record after the work leaves your hands.
